Team Rahaman ready for battle! -intent on retaining Groups 2A & 2B titles

Team Rahaman figures to be a major force at this weekend’s Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club Race of Champions meet. With two of this country’s premier drivers making up its stables, Team Rahaman will be looking for a sweep of the Group 2B, and slightly lower Group 2A events.

Speaking to Stabroek Sport yesterday, Ryan Rahaman who will be piloting one of the camp’s two Ford Escorts into battle sounded prepared for the South Dakota track and the usual challenges the tricky circuit presents. “We had a good run yesterday and both cars are working well. We now need to make only a few minor adjustments ahead of Saturday’s qualifying round and we’ll be ready,” the younger Rahaman said. The father/son duo will be looking to defend their titles in their respective groups and Ryan has no problem being the ‘marked man.’ “We are the guys to beat and my predictions are that we will again defend the titles that we have held for just about two years now,” he declared.

He sees his competition coming from the likes of Trinidadian Tanko Baboolall, Christian Bourne, Rupie Shewjattan, Kamal Sebarran and Kemal Rahaman. Ryan Rahaman says with almost twenty cars on the grid, qualifying will be the key to winning.

He has also tagged his father Jad, to stay ahead of Chet Singh, and Barbadian Shawn Boxhill and Kenrick Husbands in the Group 2A events. Rahaman says he is pleased that the standard of motor racing in Guyana has been lifted greatly with almost all the starters being capable of taking the chequered flag. He expressed a high level of gratitude for Team Rahaman’s sponsors Sankar’s Auto Colour and Guysons Engineering who have been with the team for over four years, and also to Sankar’s Auto Works which joined the team this year, and J.R Burgers for making participation possible.
