Shamshudin takes the lead

Esan Shamshudin with a handicap 17, gross 83 and net 66 has taken the lead in the Le Meridian Pegasus two-day golf championships at the end of play on the opening day yesterday at the Lusignan golf course, East Coast Demerara.

Ronald Bulkhan with a handicap of 22, a gross 89 and a net 67 is in second position followed by Imran Khan handicap seven, gross 75 and net 68 and Alfred Mentore handicap nine, gross 78 and net 69.

Four other players are hot on their heels with Colin Ming and Hilbert Shields both scoring a net 70 and Christine Sukhram 71.

Thirty-seven golfers are battling for the first prize of a trip to the United States while the second place finisher will enjoy a week-end stay at the Le Meridian Pegasus Hotel, sponsors of the tournament.

Tee-off is at 8 am today and another exciting day is anticipated on the Lusignan Course which is in excellent condition.

The Le Meridian Pegasus tournament is the final tournament before the Smirnoff Guyana Open tournament which is billed for Saturday and Sunday with local golfers testing their skills against competitors from the United States, Canada and Suriname.
