Following a sterling performance on the opening day, defending champion Ransford Goodluck will be looking to extend his lead when action resumes on day two of the National Rifle Shooting Championships today at the Timehri Rifle ranges.
The shooters will compete at 300 and 600 yards with the highest possible scores being 50 and 35 points.
Goodluck dropped just one point and tallied 135 points with 18 V-bulls out of a possible 135 points and 27 V-bulls, while the other pre-tournament favourite Mahendra Persaud encountered difficult winds at the 900 yards and will have a lot of catching up today to finish in the top three. Goodluck’s first day performance included two possibles at the 300 and 500 yards ranges and only dropped one point at the 900 yards. Claude Duguid is currently in second position with 131 points with 8 V-bulls. He shot 34-4 at 300 yards, 49-3 at 500 and 48-2 at 900 yards.
Ryan Sampson is in the third place saddle with a total of 129 points with 13 V-bulls, Richard Fields is fourth with 128 and 15 V-bulls, Dane Blair fifth with 128 points and 13 V-bulls, Dylan Fields sixth with 128 with 11 V-bulls followed by Mahendra Persaud with 127 with 12 V-bulls.
In the “O” Class Charles Dean leads with 117 points with 7 V-bulls followed by Major Terry Stewart on 117 with 5 V-bulls and Colin Loncke with 113 with 5 V-bulls. The championships end tomorrow.
