GBBC, LGC pay tribute to Hercules

The death of Ian Hercules, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Banks DIH has shocked the sporting community and two organizations in which he served have paid tribute to the hardworking communications specialist.

Trevor Arno, Secretary of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) said Hercules served the GBBC with distinction for the past seven years and at the time of his death was the organisation’s PRO and Ring Announcer.

“He was instrumental along with other members of the Public Relations Committee in producing three magazines for the board, the most recent one being in September.

Ian was a very jovial person and always accepted responsibility when asked of him, he never said no,” Arno remarked.

Hercules passed away on Tuesday, in New York, at the age of 48.

“No one would believe that Ian would meet his demise at such an early age. His position on the Board would be very difficult to fill especially finding someone with quality service and dedication that always showed willingness at all times, Arno said.

“On behalf of the Boxing Board, we would like to extend sincere condolences to his family and to other organizations he also served the distinction.

Hercules also served as PRO of the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) and Vice President John Tracey said his death took the golfing fraternity by surprise.

“He was full of life and a people person, we will endeavour to keep up the good work that he started,” Tracey said.

According to Tracey, Hercules started playing golf just over a year ago and volunteered to serve on the Executive Committee as PRO in January this year.

Tracey said that the Lusignan Golf Club and Banks DIH have a close working relationship and Hercules was always supportive to the needs of the Club.

Tracey said Hercules worked closely with the LGC in the Junior Development Programme held in August under the auspices of the Joseph “Red” Perreira and sponsored by Banks DIH Ltd.

“We would like to extend condolences to his family and Banks DIH,” the golf official said.

Hercules had been employed by Banks DIH for 22 years employed starting as an events coordinator but was later promoted to the position of PRO.

The Company’s Director of Human Resources, Rev. Andrew Carto said Hercules had complained of feeling unwell and six weeks ago he left stating he was going to overseas to have a medical check up.
