Goodluck carts off lion’s share of awards

National fullbore champion Ransford Goodluck took home the lion’s share of prizes at last Sunday’s Guyana National Rifle Association (GNRA) awards presentation at the Police Officers’ Mess.

Goodluck won most of the prizes at the National Senior championships held last month including the Sigmund Douglas Trophy grand aggregate award as well as the Denise Carryl Valladares and Junior Sports Bar trophies.

The runner up position was taken by national captain Mahendra Persaud with Dylan Fields taking the third position, Ryan Sampson fourth, Dane Blair fifth and Richard Fields sixth.

Major Terry Stuart was voted the top shooter in ‘O’ Class beating into second position Colin Loncke with Charles Dean securing the third position.

In the handgun (small bore)

, Joseph Chin won the over championship prize after he excelled in the Pratical Pistol Stage One, placed second in Stage Two and .22 Precision pistol shoot and third in the 9MM Precision shoot.

Other top performers included Brian Yong, Dale Hing, Harold Hopkinson and Gordon Richards.

Yolanda Foster received a medal for being the lone female competitor in the hand gun section.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Paul Slowe said 2007 was an excellent year for the local shooters.

Guyana hosted this year’s regional tournament at Timehri and won the short range title but lose out in the long range category.

According to Slowe 2008 will be another busy year for the local riflemen as they seek to reclaim glory at the Caribbean Rifle Shooting Championships in Jamaica in April.
