Local film goes international today

A movie produced locally by Guyanese artiste, Bunny Alves, is set to be shown throughout the Caribbean and North America as part of the Caribbean Media Corporat-ion’s (CMC’s) World AIDS Day programme today.

World AIDS Day is celebrated on December 1 every year, and according to Alves he recently signed a contract with CMC for the movie to be shown on its CaribVision AIDS Day programme today.

The movie, The Will to Live, was produced in 1995 but was not a success because it was released in January 1995 when the country was reeling from the Great Flood. Ivelaw Campbell and Denise Lyttle are the stars, and they are supported by Devon Denny, Delma Lynch and Roxanne Whaul with guest appearances by local singer Charmine Blackman and the Classsique Dance Company, among others.

The movie was shot by Comvitech and Everything Music, and was written, produced and directed by Alves. The director said he is elated with the signing of the contract and sees it as an opportunity to showcase Guyanese talent.

It was only recently Alves produced another movie, Right Choices, which was done through Signal Productions, owned by Alves and Blackman, in association the non-governmental organisation, ECHO.
