If ever there was a local advertisement that one just had to stand up and take notice of, it is most certainly the King’s Jewellery World advertisement produced for the Christmas holidays.

We would be bold enough to say that this advertisement ranks among the best in any country.

If you have not seen the advertisement then we strongly suggest that you do so and we are 100% sure that you would agree with us.

The first thing the jewellery store and its advertising agency – which we have learned is Guyenterprise – did right, was to choose someone who is pleasing to look at. Guyana’s rising singing star, Timeka Marshall, in addition to her good looks, has an amazing voice which she used beautifully in the advertisement. Just in case you do not manage to catch the advertisement, here is a brief synopsis.

Timeka wears a tastefully sexy dress and her hair is in a beautiful upswept style. Her face is immaculately made up and she is accessorized with all the right pieces of King’s jewellery. Timeka’s wonderful voice sings about the pieces of jewellery she needs for Christmas; where she will get them and with whom.

And of course Timeka is not just standing like a statue singing and looking good – no she moves her body in time with the rhythm of the song as she showcases the jewellery she is wearing.

The advertisement could be best described as ‘short and sweet’ and when it is finished one gets the feeling that an encore is in order. Let’s just say it looks good, sounds good and is a flawless production. It makes us want to grab our respective “honeys” and head down to King’s.

So we give King’s the thumbs up for not only the best Christmas advertisement, but the best advertisement we have seen in years.

We must mention too that some of the boutiques, Lifestyles for instance, have been producing some not-so-bad advertisements. All they really need is some good looking men and women modelling beautiful clothing, but some are a touch above the rest in terms of presentation.

We are hoping that the King’s advertisement rouses the jealousy and creative spirit of other advertising agencies and businesses. For too long we have been bombarded with advertisements that are so poorly put together, we can only conclude that no thought went into them.

We can give a long list of the very bad ones but it’s the season of goodwill, so we will just point out that using the faces and voices of people considered famous in Guyana do not a good advertisement make.

We would suggest too that Linden ‘Jumbie’ Jones and Kurt Jardim, both local actors/comedians have been overused in local advertisements; people are tired of seeing them. We know they have to earn a living but it would be detrimental to their careers if they became so clich
