Unique beach party tomorrow

History is to be created tomorrow when Beach-a-rama will be held in Guyana for the first time at the Splashmin’s Fun Park, with A-list regional entertainers, fun and frolic in the beach atmosphere.

According to Steve Ninvalle, who is part of the promotion team of the event that would see Grammy- winning artiste Shaggy on stage, gates will be open from 11 am. He told The Scene that there would be wet t-shirts, fat man, fat woman and tug-o-war competitions. “It will be a real fun-filled day and people can go up as early as they wish to enjoy the water and sunlight in the beach atmosphere and then later in the afternoon be treated to some to class entertainment. And they can do so [enjoy the entertainment] while still dressed in their beach wear,” Ninvalle said.

He promises patrons will be given their full money’s worth of entertainment since they are being asked to pay $2,700 for tickets bought at locations around the city or $3,000 at the gate.

Shaggy, born Orville Richard Burrell in Jamaica, who is headlining the Mc Neal Entertainment production, is expected on stage 9 pm sharp, Ninvalle said. But preceding him will be the likes of Trinidadians Destra Garcia and Adesh Sameroo, Guyana’s own, Jamaica-based Natural Black and Jamaican Tami Chyn. Also from the local front will be Malo, Mingles Sound Machine and Brutal Jammers.

Shaggy, famous for hits such as “Church Heathen”, “It wasn’t me”, “Angel” and others, has remained a favourite, especially in the dancehall/reggae arena, after more than a decade in the business and this will be his second performance in Guyana. His first performance, which was about five years ago, was also facilitated by Mc Neal Entertainment.

Ninvalle said while Shaggy is the headliner, Destra is also a force to be reckoned with as she could be considered as one of the region’s best female entertainers.

Ninvalle said persons should not be afraid as security will be tight even as he appealed to patrons to arrive early at the location so as avoid any last-minute traffic congestion.

The concert will coincide with Mingles Sound Machine’s 20th anniversary, which was celebrated on December 9.

Mike Fung, who is responsible for the technical aspect of the show, had earlier stated that two stages which will be used for the four bands expected. The Trinidadians will be backed by their own Atlantic band; Shaggy is expected to bring his own band; and Guyana’s Brutal Jammers band will lend support alongside Mingles.
