MMA worker drowns while repairing sluice

A 40-year-old employee of the Mahaica-Mahaicony-Abary (MMA) scheme drowned in the Berbice River around 9.30 am yesterday while repairing a sluice door at D’Edward Village, West Coast Berbice; his body was fished out almost two hours later.

Pirates sail away with fishermen

Security forces launched a search yesterday for a five fishermen who were left in an unidentified area after gun-toting pirates hijacked their boat in the Atlantic Ocean, off the Mahaicony foreshore, East Coast Demerara.

Berbice road deaths plunge

‘Driver packed suitcase’ – cocaine accused tells court

The 24-year-old man who was allegedly found with three kilogrammes of cocaine in his suitcase at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) on Tuesday appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday, and claimed that the driver of the car which took him to the airport had transferred his clothes from a bag to the suitcase.
