Housewife robbed, raped

A 19-year-old Corentyne housewife who was robbed of over $300,000 in cash and jewellery around 1 pm on Monday was brutally raped by her victim and had to be treated at the Skeldon Hospital. Reports are that the 20-year-old suspect of Number 74 Village was arrested at a friend’s house in a nearby village about half an hour after the daring daylight attack was committed. Charges are expected to be laid against him today.
According to the police, the 19-year-old woman was sitting in her living-room at Number 73 Village when her attacker barged in and placed a file to her throat.

He then ordered her into the kitchen where he abandoned the file, collected a knife and demanded the cash and jewellery.

The woman led him to a bedroom and handed over a quantity of jewellery worth $295,000 and $10,000 cash that were in a wardrobe as well as a Motorola cell phone.

Stabroek News learnt that at this stage, still holding her at knife-point, the woman’s attacker forced her to remove her clothing and proceeded to rape her. After committing the act he locked the woman in the bedroom and fled.

A report was made to the police and the suspect was subsequently arrested.
