Long before the February 12 on-line issue of The Economist magazine reported on the Lusignan massacre of January 26, countries around the world would have already learnt by one means or another of the dastardly act. Technological advancements in mass communications mean that it is now impossible to conceal events like those at Lusignan from the rest of the world and we can certainly anticipate that the recipients of this information will sit up and take notice.

It is, of course, little comfort to know that according to The Economist article the problem of violent crime is actually worse elsewhere in the region – including The Bahamas, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago – since on the face of the available evidence the crime situation here is growing worse
