The Best Political Team in the Media, the WR Political Affairs Unit, is here tonight to give an early report on the race among the presidential nominees for the PPP.

Now that it seems clear President Jagdeo is not going to try and twist the constitution and run for a third term, and since he no longer has a wife he could put up as a candidate, the race is wide open.

Now first off we have to understand that Freedom House is about as forthcoming as the Kremlin, past or present. Secondly in the looking glass world of PPP politics, listening to public opinion, no matter how reasonable, will only make you look weak. Heaven forbid you should feel the need to be accountable to your people.

Hell, the best thing for a PPP candidate is to promise if they get elected they would write legislation banning all government ads for Stabroek News, promise to raise VAT to 25% and give the Home Affairs Ministry to Kellawan Lall. In other words the candidate who has the biggest hard on wins.

Here are the contenders:

Robert “Prime Time” Persaud:

The Good: Gosh, and we thought the late Sash Sawh was the Chronic’s poster boy of the millennium! Instead Robert manages to get his mug in the newspaper every freakin’ single day! Robert has surpassed even Peter Ramsaroop in the art of shameless promotion, and thereby making everyone thoroughly nauseous. He is now officially more famous than Jesus.
