Elderly driver found dead in home

The decomposed body of a Cummings Street man, believed to have died on Old Year’s Day of causes unknown, was removed from his home yesterday.

Colbert Pollard, 70, of 348 Cummings Street was discovered dead around 7 am by neighbours who went to check on him after his employer turned up to say that he had been absent from work since Monday. Reports are that Pollard was lying on his side on the floor of the home and there were no visible injuries on his body.

A strong stench was emanating from Pollard’s home prior to the discovery but his neighbours dismissed it since according to them, no one knew whether he was in or out. They said the elderly man kept to himself and never said much to anyone.

Yesterday a man who said Pollard worked for him as a driver, turned up at the home to see why the man had stayed away from work. After checking with neighbours, he, along with a woman who resides in the top flat of the building where Pollard lived, made the discovery.

The police were called in and around 10 am the body was taken to Le Repentir mortuary where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination. Police took statements from neighbours.

Pollard reportedly has family residing overseas.
