A man, who had been charged with unlawful possession of guns and ammunition last year, denied two counts of forgery of a gun licence when he appeared at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Tameshwar Nauth Rajkumar of Greenwich Park, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) denied the charges and Magistrate Fazil Azeez rolled-over the bail granted in the previous matters to include the new ones.
It is alleged that on July 13, 2007 at the said location, with intent to defraud, the defendant forged a certain document, to wit firearm licence number 59119 purporting to show that he is the licence holder of a 12-gauge shotgun number 882337, knowing same to be forged.
It is also alleged that on the same day at Greenwich Park, with intent to defraud, he forged firearm licence number 54104 purporting to show that he is a licence holder of a .32 revolver number 3616 knowing same to be forged.
Previously, Rajkumar and his wife, Sandrowtie Rajkumar, had been charged with two counts of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. It is alleged that on July 13 last year, at the said location, the couple had one 9mm Browning semi-automatic pistol, one 12-gauge single barrel shotgun, 30 12-gauge cartridges, nine 9 mm ammunition, eight .32 ammunition, three .22 and two .38 special ammunition without being the holder of a firearm licence. They had denied the charges upon their first appearance at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court and were remanded to prison by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton. However, they were later granted bail in the High Court.
