Feud lands East Ruimveldt women in court

Two women, who share mutual feelings of dislike and a seemingly endless feud that resulted in a physical fight on last Thursday, were yesterday brought before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on separate charges. Both women were placed on bail.

Paulette Junior, a 42-year-old self-employed resident of 33 East Ruimvelt Front Road, pleaded not guilty when a charge of unlawfully and maliciously wounding was read to her by Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle. Umbalita Grant also of East Ruimvelt, a housewife and single mother of three, was charged with use of threatening gestures.

It is alleged that on January 17, Junior and Grant had an argument, which resulted in a physical confrontation between the two. In her defence, Junior told the court that Grant just didn’t like her. She said Grant always had something to say to her and would often be the one to start an argument.

Grant admitted that she verbally abused Junior, but only after woman made a degrading comment about her child and its father. She denied the allegations made by Junior and insisted that she had nothing against the woman. She said it was Junior who started to curse her and in the process she was hit with a big brick by the woman.

After the fight began, Grant told the court, Junior’s sister ran into the house and brought out two big kitchen knives. Grant said she escaped by running into someone’s yard and the crowd that had gathered protected her from the women. The matter was later reported to the police.

Junior and Grant were placed on $20,000 and $10,000 bail, respectively. The matter was transferred to Court Three and will continue on February 1.
