`Words cannot explain’

With expressions of intense grief, Lusignan bid goodbye to ten of its slain residents in ceremonies by three different faiths yesterday. The eleventh victim was laid to rest on Tuesday after a Muslim burial ceremony.

Thousands thronged the Lusignan Tarmac yesterday afternoon creating a sea of black and white for a glimpse of the bodies under a blazing sun, which was later obscured by clouds and followed by a light drizzle before bright sunshine returned. There was some pushing but an orderly line was eventually formed and persons viewed the bodies for more than an hour. During this period, representatives of the Christian, Muslim and Hindu faiths said prayers and there were several readings from holy books. Prime Minister Samuel Hinds and Opposition Leader Robert Corbin made brief speeches.

Asking how one could find words of comfort, Corbin said that in the tragedy “there is a divine message for the nation”.
