Woman pleads self-defence in ketchup bottle wounding

A 43-year-old female who wounded her reputed husband with a ketchup bottle was yesterday placed on self-bail when she was charged and taken before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Kim Singh of Lot 1 Jackson Dam, East La Penitence pleaded guilty to the charge of unlawfully and maliciously wounding her reputed husband.

Singh in her explanation to the court said David Gravesande, her reputed husband, constantly abused her. According to the woman, on January 31, the day in question, she had a confrontation with Gravesande.

Shortly after the argument, Singh said, she went outside to do some washing and the man approached her from behind and grabbed her hair.

She said that in self-defence, she grabbed a ketchup bottle which was in her reach and hit Gravesande on the hand which resulted in his fingers being gashed.

For his part, Gravesande denied ever abusing his reputed wife and said it was the woman’s habit to take him to court.

Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle placed Singh on self-bail and the matter continues on February 21 in Court One.
