Massacre gunmen have to be caught for Lusignan to feel safe -residents

While welcoming the cleaning of bush from the backlands of Buxton, some residents of Lusignan feel that more can be done to capture the January 26 massacre criminals.

“I think that the backlands can be cleared but the main object is to get the men (bandits) them, but if you clear the backlands and you ain’t get the people then the problem will continue”, a relative of some of the 11 persons killed in the Lusignan massacre said.

Speaking with Stabroek News yesterday, some residents of the community stated that “if the Joint Services don’t work on a day-to-day basis then these same criminals will use it as a priority to continue their activities.”

Supporting the clearing of the bushes, the residents pointed out that after committing their nefarious activities, many times the criminals run into the bushes. “I glad if a plane can go there and spray the place”, one man, who declined to give his name stated. Another said that he worked in the back dam and “from here to Vigilance is share bush”. He said that at times men in camouflage clothing were seen in those areas.

A female relative, who also asked that her name not be published, said that the clearing of the bushes was a good thing but she felt sorry for the farmers who had their plots there and feels that more can be done. “I seh they really got to find them men this because if they don’t find them, them gon do it again
