Two men were on Wednesday remanded on separate charges of break and enter and simple larceny when they appeared before Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Mark Sonaram is said to have stolen a Motorola cell phone and a tape recorder valued at $22,000 on February 7 from Bishops’ High School. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
In his defence, Sonaram said that he was in the alley urinating when a man from across the street came and picked him up and took him to the police station. The prosecution said, however, that he was caught jumping over the school’s fence by the same man and the tape recorder was found in his possession but the cell phone was not recovered.
Meanwhile in the same court David Gobin called ‘Judge’ was charged for allegedly breaking into the home of Nizam Prashad and stealing 2 DVD players, 1 digital camera, 1 5lb tin of milk, 5 bottles of Ovaltine, 2 tins of sausages and 2 lbs of butter, a total value of $206,400. None of the items was recovered and according to the prosecution the accused told the police that he had sold the items to someone. Gobin has to return to court next Monday.
