A group of Canadian firms from Nova Scotia recently visited Guyana to explore opportunities in the hydrocarbons sector for partnership and investment.
In a press release, the Canadian High Commission said the Province of Nova Scotia has had considerable success in developing business, industry and training programmes to develop offshore oil and gas following the discovery and development of offshore hydrocarbons in the 1970s. Representatives from Atlantic Towing, Stantec, Offshore/Onshore Technologies Association of Nova Scotia, Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and the Nova Scotia Department of Energy paid a two-day to Guyana last week.
Frank Sommerville of the Nova Scotia Ministry of Energy led the mission. The agenda included a courtesy call on Prime Minister Samuel Hinds as well as meetings with government officials, private sector organisations and Canadian firms already active in the sector. The high commission said it has worked closely with Canadian companies to identify ways in which they could partner with key stakeholders here.
Further, it said its goal is to support the successful and sustainable development of the emerging oil and gas sector.
The Nova Scotia Energy Trade Mission discussed options for ongoing cooperation in the key areas of capacity-building and renewable energy opportunities.
The high commission and the Trinidad and Tobago/Nova Scotia Liaison Office organised the mission.
