Man remanded over armed robbery at Stabroek Market

A 35-year-old man was remanded when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton on a charge of robbery under arms in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Dexter Lynch, a fisherman of Joe Singh Dam, Guyhoc Park allegedly robbed a man of a gold band and gold earrings valued at $85,000 at the Stabroek Market last Friday. Lynch was not required to plead to the charge.

Attorney Adrian Thompson representing Lynch said that the matter arose out of a misunderstanding between Lynch and the virtual complainant. Thompson made an application for bail, but Police Prosecutor Shellon Daniels objected, citing the seriousness and prevalence of the crime. The magistrate ruled in favour of the prosecution and Lynch has to return to court on April 1.
