Someone left water pump in larceny accused’s truck

A 36-year-old man who allegedly stole a water pump worth $131,000 belonging to the Ministry of Home Affairs was yesterday taken before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Rajendra Garbaran of 345 Parika, East Bank Essequibo pleaded not guilty to the charge of simple larceny when it was read to him by Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle.

It is alleged that between March 7 and 8 Garbaran stole the water pump, which was later recovered in the back of his Canter truck.

According the Garbaran’s attorney, Vic Puran, his client did not steal the pump. On the day the pump was recovered, Puran said, the Canter was parked outside the Stabroek Market and someone left the pump in the Canter truck’s tray.

Garbaran was placed on $50,000 bail. The matter was transferred to Court Two and will continue on March 28.
