Corentyne pillion rider dies in pole crash

A 25-year-old Corentyne resident lost his life on Sunday night when the motor cycle he was travelling on crashed into a pole on the Number 75 Village Public Road.

Dead is Deryck Ross of No. 64 Village, Corentyne.

Police said in a statement yesterday that they are investigating an accident that occurred around 11.45 on Sunday night in which Ross was killed.

The statement said that investigations so far revealed that Ross was the pillion rider on a motor cycle proceeding along the public road when the rider lost control and crashed into a pole along the roadway.

Ross, police said, was taken to the Skeldon Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival while the rider was treated and sent away.

He is in police custody assisting with the investigation, the statement said, adding that sixteen persons have lost their lives in fatal accidents for this year, compared to thirty-nine for the same period last year.
