Banks DIH executive Ramesh Dookhoo is the newly-elected President of the Guyana Manufac-turing & Services Association Ltd for 2008-2009.

He had served previously as president from 2002-2004.

Following the association’s Annual General Meeting on March 13 at the GMSA’s headquarters at the Sophia Exhibition Complex, Dookhoo was elected at the first meeting of the Board held on March 19.

The association said in a press release that the First Vice Presi-dent is Terry Holder of GT&T, Anthony Ross of Sterling Products is Second Vice President and Autamaram Lakeram of National Milling Company of Guyana is Third Vice President.

Meanwhile Dookhoo, in expressing appreciation for the confidence the Board had reposed in him, noted that there was a great deal of work to be done by the GMSA which is operating in a challenging business environment.

The release stated that the new president pointed to the need for all the established committees to function effectively and stressed the importance of the work of the Trade and Investment and Policy and Legislative committees.

He also called on the chairmen of the various sub-sectors to take effective control of those areas.

The Chairs of the various sub-sectors are Anthony Ross (Agro-Processing), Somat Ali (Construction & Engineering), Major General (ret’d) Norman McLean (Minerals & Related Industries), Neil Fraser (Services), Rustum Bulkan (Forestry and Wood Products), Jimmy Lorrimer (Printing and Packaging) and Shafeek Ferouz (Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals). However, the Chair of the Textiles and Sewn Goods sub-sector is still to be nominated.

The other members elected to the Board at the AGM are George Robinson, Oscar Phillips, Clement Duncan, Fitzroy Fletcher, John Peroune, Earl John, Jocelyn Dow, Peter Pompey, Raymond Ramsaroop and Mark Bender.
