Farm woman to stand trial for murder of children

Magistrate Fazil Azeez yesterday committed a woman, charged with the murder of two of her children, to stand trial in the High Court after ruling that a prima facie case had been made out against her.

Johanna Danhai of Farm, East Bank Essequibo had been charged with the murder of two of her children, a seven-year-old boy and nine-year-old girl.

It is alleged that between August 30 and August 31, 2005 at Farm, EBE, she murdered Jamel Danhai and Keisha Danhai. The children had died of poisoning and following police investigations, she was charged.

At the Leonora Magistrate’s Court, where the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) was conducted, the magistrate said having considered the testimony given; the court was convinced that a prima facie had been made out against the accused.

When asked if she had anything to say, Danhai remained silent and shook her head and said no when asked if she wished to call any witnesses.

She broke down in tears as she was being led out of the courtroom.
