‘Killa’ remanded over army AK-47

A man who allegedly aided and abetted two of the six men who were recently charged with the theft and possession of an AK-47 belonging to the Guyana Defence Force appeared on Wednesday before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Ravi Rampaul also called ‘Killa’ of Alness Village, Corentyne pleaded not guilty to the charge of unlawful acquisition when it was read to him by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton.

It is alleged that between December 1 and 31 last year Rampaul aided and abetted Alwin Fraser and Paul Rajigadoo to acquire a firearm, that is to say one AK-47 rifle without being the holder of a firearm licence.

Rampaul was subsequently remanded to prison and the matter has been transferred to the Albion Magistrate’s Court for April 7.

Alwin Fraser and Paul Rajigadoo were among the six men who were charged with possession of an army AK-47 rifle on February 19.

Rajigadoo, a police constable who has since been interdicted from duty, was charged with conspiracy to commit the theft of AK-47 #410416, worth $360,000, while Fraser was charged with receiving stolen property knowing that it was feloniously stolen. He was also charged with the unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition.

The AK-47 is said to have been stolen within the period November 23 to November 30, while the offences by Fraser were allegedly committed between November 26 and February 14.

The other accused were Roy Jones called ‘Rambo’, Devon Sharp, Wilson and Sharth Robertson. Wilson and Robertson were granted bail in the sum of $250,000 each on March 12.
