Mason remanded on gun and ammo charges

A 30-year-old mason was remanded on two charges of possession of a gun and ammunition when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
It is alleged that on March 19 at Warudi Backdam, Cuyuni River, Albert Roopwah had in his possession a .38 revolver and three live rounds of .38 ammunition without being the holder of a valid firearm licence. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Roopwah’s attorney Peter Hugh in his application for bail told the court that his client was in custody since March 20 and had no previous convictions. Prosecutor Shellon Daniels said that there is an alleged confession from the accused and objected to bail on the grounds of the seriousness and prevalence of the crime. The case was transferred to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court for April 15.
