Highest spring tide today

Acting Chief Hydrometeorological Officer Bhaleka Suelall says that the highest spring tide this year forecast for today is not likely to cause a major problem, a Government Information Agency release said.

The tide is expected at 4:25 am today and should be at the height of 3.27 metres. Suelall explained that only if the tide is accompanied by severe weather conditions would it pose a major problem. However, the release said, there are no indications of any weather system in Guyana’s vicinity that will trigger major problems.

The current spring tide period commenced on April 3 and will end on Thursday. Suelall urged fishermen and residents along the coast to remain alert during this period.
The high spring tide from last month left several villages along the lower East Coast Demerara flooded.
