Faulty phone line the cause of Linden radio blackout – NCN

Linden residents have been without access to radio for close to a month now due to a faulty telephone line which transmits audio signals to the National Communications Network (NCN) transmitting station at Blue Berry Hill.

NCN Chief Executive Officer Mohammed Sattaur, in an invited comment to Stabroek News, said on Tuesday that his company was working to rectify the situation and has given assurances that the radio feed to the community would be resumed as soon as possible. Sattaur said NCN has since written to the telephone company which said the matter is being given priority attention. Further, he said the problem is not related to NCN’s transmitter, but lay strictly with getting the audio signals to Blue Berry Hill.

Sattaur said the matter was raised by Lindeners and they were told that “we are focused on getting it fixed as a soon as possible.” He also told this newspaper that the company intended to move its entire operation from Blue Berry Hill to Watooka and would also be buying a new FM transmitter which would enable transmission from Watooka before year end. He said the telephone exchange to Linden from Watooka is more efficient and this should present less challenges.

The company has identified the transmitter and it would be purchased shortly.
