Patentia shallow grave

A 28-year-old man accused of beheading his landlord at Patentia, West Bank Demerara (WBD) and burying the body in the backyard appeared at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court on a murder charge yesterday and was remanded to prison.

Andre Hurdle called ‘Dumb Boy’ of Lot 93 Patentia was not required to plead to the capital offence of murder when Magistrate Fazil Azeez read the charge to him.
Andre HurdleIt is alleged that between March 7 and April 17 at Patentia, he murdered his 54-year-old landlord, Ramesh Singh called ‘Chukuroo’.

Reports are that last Thurs-day, Singh’s son Mahesh went to his father’s home after receiving reports that he was missing and was told by a neighbour that he had seen the accused digging a hole in the backyard.

The accused had reportedly said he was digging the hole for a latrine and had allegedly told neighbours, who enquired as to the whereabouts of his landlord, that the man had left the country.

Mahesh, along with another man, went to the area and after digging saw a portion of the body. The police were called and uncovered the rest of the body. They observed that the head had been severed. Hurdle was arrested and following investigations charged for the offence. The court was told yesterday that Hurdle is deaf.

He will return to the Wales Magistrate’s Court on May 29.
