Johnny Walker gets handyman two-year sentence

A 37-year-old handyman who stole four bottles of his employer’s Johnny Walker whisky was given a two-year sentence yesterday when he appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Rajendra Ramdan pleaded guilty to the charge of simple larceny when it was read to him by Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle.

On Tuesday, being employed as a handyman by Fay Lawrie, Ramdan stole four bottles of Johnny Walker whisky and two bottles of Baileys, together worth $96,000.

Lawrie explained to the court that the defendant was in her employ for just over two weeks and she had fired her bartender thinking that he was the one stealing the liquor.

After listening to this Magistrate Robertson-Ogle said, “Well your handyman made himself very handy indeed.” The defendant then explained to the court that the four bottles of Johnny Walker were sold together for $4,000.

Ramdan was sentenced to two years imprisonment and as he walked off he was heard muttering “…jail, da is wa Johnny Walker does get you.”
