Woman admits embezzling “in parts”

A 21-year-old woman who embezzled $163,500 at her former place of employment appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Trivaidaie Rajbally of Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara pleaded guilty to the charge of embezzlement when it was read to her by Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle.
Between May 3 and 6 Rajbally, being a clerk/servant at Raveena’s International Store, embezzled the sum of $163,500 received by her for her employer.

Rajbally repaid the full amount to the virtual complainant and told the court that she had removed the money “in parts” to buy a replacement bangle for someone from whom she had borrowed the jewel.

The defendant was given the choice of a $30,000 fine or a 12-month sentence.
