GT&T providing cell service at Mabaruma

The Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GT&T) said it recently installed the last piece of equipment to facilitate mobile access at Mabaruma.

In a press release the company said the new cellular site in the main administrative centre in Region One comes on the heels of its commissioning and subsequent optimization of service at Mahdia in Region Eight and at Port Kaituma.

GT&T said Mabaruma is a key agricultural location and the service will provide a viable mobile option and augment its fixed line and rural radio service. The company said it has already received a number of positive responses from residents who see the development as significant.
The company said since the start of the year it has been aggressively pursuing cellular development especially in rural communities where previously residents were forced to use the services of patch radio. GT&T said the site will offer all the services that it provides its cellular customers elsewhere including SMS, voicemail, the lowest rate for calling subscribers and data services such as web browsing and email.

Meanwhile, the company said over the last months its cellular development has moved into high gear with construction works ongoing simultaneously at three sites on the Soesdyke-Linden Highway and at Meadow Brook in the city.
