National Gallery hosting Independence exhibition

The National Gallery is hosting an Independence exhibition titled ‘Land of Many Waters’ in honour of Guyana’s 42nd Independence anniversary.

In a press release the Gallery said the works of 23 artists illustrating Guyana’s rivers, waterfalls and waterways and their surrounding landscape will be featured. Forty-five paintings and two sculptures from the National Collection, including an early rendering of Kaieteur Falls, traditional renderings of picturesque rural scenes and activities, abstract and symbolic interpretations of landscape features and depictions of interior life showing the dependence on waterways and creeks.

The exhibition will feature artists Vivian Antrobus, George Bowen-Forbes, ER Burrowes, Tracy Cholmondely, Stephanie Correia, Michael Cox, Maggie Dookun, Maylene Duncan, Merlene Ellis, Edward Fredericks, Kingsley Lambert, Phillip Moore, Hubert Moshett, Seunarine Munisar and George Simon. 
The exhibition also marks International Museum Day which is observed on May 18 annually. This year’s theme is ‘Museums as Agents of Social Change and Development.’
The exhibition will be hosted until July 19 and admission is free.
The Gallery opens from 10 am to 5 pm weekdays and from 2 pm to 6 pm on Saturdays.
