Iwokrama appoints new CEO

The Iwokrama International Centre yesterday said it has appointed Dr Dane Gobin as Chief Executive Officer.
In a press release Iwokrama said Gobin holds a BSc (Management) and an MBA (Finance) from St John’s University, New York. He joined the Centre in 2002 as Business Development Consultant and has held positions such as Programme Support Director and more recently Director – Finance and Operations. Gobin has held the acting CEO post since December 1, 2007.

Prior to joining Iwokrama, Gobin operated two family businesses in manufacturing and trading on his return to Guyana in 1990. He also lectured in the social sciences faculty at the University of Guyana for a number of years.

Iwokrama said Gobin brings a wealth of practical commercial, business development and management experience to the post.

He has been instrumental in developing its sustainable timber business and has overseen the growth of its eco-tourism and training businesses.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees and former UK Ambassador to Guyana Edward Glover said he welcomes Gobin to the post. “His skills, experience and proven drive will be extremely important as we complete the development of our businesses on which the Centre’s viability largely depends and embark on a bold new scientific programme,” Glover said. “He is the right man at the right time,” he added.
Gobin succeeds Dr David Singh.
