Food for the Poor Guyana Inc on Tuesday handed over a furnished house to Kendra Haywood and her sons to the tune of $7.5M.

Food for the Poor representative, Michelle Branker (standing second from right) hands over furniture and school items to Kendra Haywood (right) and three of her seven sons. The house was built on the land that was given to Haywood by the Ministry of Housing free of cost, at Parfait Harmonie.

Haywood who is the single mother of seven sons was being evicted from her one- bedroom Lot 59 Cross Street, Werk-en-Rust home and had sought help in every direction before Food for the Poor responded after a report in this newspaper.

Haywood lost her husband just over two years ago when he was killed in the attack on the home of Agriculture Minister, Satyadeow Sawh. Curtis Robertson was working as a security guard at Sawh’s home on the night gunmen invaded. Haywood was left to raise her seven boys on her own.

Haywood has expressed her joy at receiving a furnished home for her boys and herself and has expressed her sincere appreciation to Food for the Poor for giving her a new lease on life.
