Two cops, fireman remanded over armed robbery

Two police officers and a fire-fighter were remanded to prison when they appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
Police officer Rochelle Humphrey, her brother Marvin Humphrey, a fire-fighter, of Lot 1 Samaroo Dam, West Bank Demerara (WBD) and her boyfriend, Cecil Davis, also a police officer, of Belle West, WBD pleaded not guilty to two charges of robbery under arms. Rochelle was also charged with simple larceny.
It is alleged that on February 1 and 5, the trio while being armed with a gun, robbed Hilton Baptist and another individual of $75,000 and $37,260 worth of alcoholic beverages, respectively. Further, it is alleged that on February 1, Rochelle stole $289,000 in cash and valuables.
The three accused told the court that they were in the market shopping when they were approached by fellow members of the police force who, they said, beat Davis and then took them to the police station.

According to the prosecution, the trio has similar matters before several courts.
Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle refused the three accused bail and the matter was transferred to the Providence Magistrate’s Court for June 24.
