Guyana unswervingly committed to Caricom –President

President Bharrat Jagdeo in extending 35th Caribbean Community (Caricom) anniversary greetings says that Guyana is unswervingly committed to the regional integration movement.

The occasion, he said, provides a perfect opportunity for all to reflect on the evolution of the community since the Treaty of Chaguaramas was signed on July 4, 1973. Although the challenges faced 35 years ago have changed, the ideals and guiding principles which formed the integration movement remain even more relevant, the President said.

Further, the head of state noted that as a young organization Caricom has made significant progress in areas including trade, human and social development and security. He urged all member states to use their diversity to craft closer regional integration and a community that will reflect the political, economic and cultural realities of the region.
