Enmore, Foulis get planting material

Enmore and Foulis residents on Thursday benefited from planting materials from the Ministry of Agriculture when the ‘Grow more’ caravan rolled into the communities.

The distribution is part of the ministry’s ongoing campaign to ensure that there are no food shortages in the wake of rising food prices globally. Minister Robert Persaud and a team including regional representatives and officers from the ministry met residents to enlighten them about the campaign, a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release said.

“With prices moving up and increased demand, there are more opportunities for farmers to expand,” Persaud said, adding that the campaign also targets households.

Citing global challenges such as the rising price of inputs and climate change the minister said government is continuing to look at ways to access inputs so that farmers can benefit. He urged the farmers to cultivate their land noting that there are many opportunities open to them.

Meanwhile, drainage works are ongoing in the communities: extra pumps have been installed in flood-prone areas and earthen works are ongoing at Cane Grove and other East Coast communities. Persaud also told the meeting that government will be investing $12M in a packaging facility at Enmore.
