Bus conductor shot by robber -Agricola public road

A 27-year-old mini-bus conductor was shot in the hand and robbed of a gold chain and $15,000 during a scuffle with three men on the Agricola Public Road yesterday afternoon.

Abu Salmo of Diamond New Scheme was transferred to the Georgetown Hospital from the Diamond Diagnostic Centre to seek further medical attention last evening. Up to press time he was still receiving treatment and his condition was listed as stable. He sustained a gunshot wound on his right hand near his thumb and a wound from the gun being placed against his chest.

At the time of the incident, the Route 42 bus that Salmo was working on had stopped to put off two passengers at Agricola.

According to information, two men who exited the bus were joined by another who was in a nearby barber shop. Together they robbed Salmo before discharging several rounds. It is unclear in which direction they fled.
The mini-bus driver told Stabroek News at the hospital last evening that sometime between 5:30 and 6 pm, they left the East Bank park en route to Grove. On the way a passenger said he wanted to disembark at the Barber shop on the Agricola public road. The driver said that he stopped as requested and shortly after he saw Salmo fighting with three men near the bus door.

“All I hear is about three or four shots and I drive away the bus with the other passengers”, the man said adding that following the robbery Salmo ran away and later caught up with his bus.
He added that the passengers disembarked and he took the injured man to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre for medical attention.

According to him, all Salmo told him is that he had been “set up” and that the act was committed by three men.
Also at the Georgetown Hospital was Salmo’s father Shaboor Ibrahim who told this newspaper that it appears as though a bone had been broken. He said that he was at the Diamond institution when he saw the bus his son works on and was later informed of the incident. He said that Salmo was conscious.

Recounting what he had been told the man said that two men ran out of the barber shop and attempted to grab his son’s gold chain. The man said that there was a scuffle and the men shot him in the hand before escaping with the chain and the money he had.
Police are investigating.
