Family suspects foul play

A 32-year-old Mazaruni man has been missing since last Sunday and relatives suspect that foul play may be involved in his disappearance. Mark Pierre formerly of 11 D’Uurban Street, Lodge was reportedly last seen on August 3rd at Tamakay Landing by his sister-in-law.

Police detectives from the Bartica and Enachu Police Stations ventured into the area yesterday morning to investigate the man’s whereabouts. However up to late yesterday afternoon the family had gotten no word from them as they were apparently still in the ‘backdam’ carrying out investigations, the missing man’s brother Marvin told Stabroek News.

Mark PierrePierre, a father of three, had been living in D’Urban Street but moved to stay with his brother, Marvin, and his sister-in-law at Tamakay Landing, Mazaruni some four months ago, Pierre’s aunt Masie Nobrega told Stabroek News.

According to Nobrega, Marvin was in Georgetown last weekend and had radioed home on Monday, August 4th to speak to his reputed wife. When he was finished speaking with her he asked to speak to his brother, Mark. That is when he was told by his wife that she had not seen Mark since the previous day.

Marvin’s wife told him that Mark had said he was going to the toilet and she had not seen him since, the man’s aunt told Stabroek News.

The woman further explained that Marvin owned a store and Pierre went there to work as his manager. Pierre, she said, is not the sort of person who would disappear for a number of days without telling anyone where he was. She affirmed that nothing of this kind has ever happened before; strengthening her belief that something has happened to him.

The woman told this newspaper that after there was no sign of Pierre since Sunday she and the man’s mother, Juanita Pierre, went to the Eve Leary Police Headquarters to report the matter. The woman said that Eve Leary called the Bartica Police Station which in turn contacted the Enachu Police Station to see if they had managed to gather any information concerning the missing man.

Pierre’s aunt further told Stabroek News that the man’s other brother, Mario, has been searching for him for the past few days but has seen no sign of him. “My nephew told me: `I have searched many places and I see no trace of him.’” According to Nobrega, Pierre would not just walk into the bushes and not return and it is their belief that something has happened to him.

She further said that the family finds it very strange that Pierre went to use the indoor washroom in the building and just disappeared. “I told Mario to look around the building where the store was to see if he found anything,” she explained. Nobrega said also that it is strange that her nephew would just disappear in a place as big and populated as Tamakay, “is not like is a bushy, place with couple shack, the place civilized, a lot of people living there.” Nobrega related.

She also said that she was informed that Pierre had wanted to come back to Georgetown but he was not given any money to travel. The family is urging anyone with information regarding the man’s whereabouts to call Juanita at 621-9549 or Marvin at 639-4811.
