‘Fineman’, Skinny’ deaths call for introspection – AFC

Events such as the recent killing of wanted men Rondell ‘Fineman’ Rawlins and Jermaine ‘Skinny’ Charles are not ones for jubilation or celebration but for relief, thankfulness and introspection, the Alliance For Change (AFC) has said.

In a statement issued on Monday, the party placed on record its commendation for the Joint Services efforts, diligence and success, but noted that despite the capture of several members of the gang, the conditions which spawned the rise and activities of this and other gangs  remain ever present in the society.

The party also emphasized its disappointment that since the convening of the stakeholders engagement in the year, little progress has been made in the direction of forging a more inclusive, transparent and deliberative approach to the many problems that fertilise  seeds of despair and hopelessness in communities.

This, the party said, sprouted into the type of crime the country witnesses and experiences today.

AFC said too that itself and other stakeholders have been advocating for a thorough review of all the causes of crime and insecurity in Guyana, which will hopefully lead to the understanding and elimination of the root causes which trigger and drive violent crime.

It said its calls have fallen on deaf ears. The statement also said that the socio-economic and political conditions which exist and which are not being adequately addressed would continue to generate delinquency and the eventual destruction of the fabric of the state.
