Accident ruled out in New Road pensioner death

A post-mortem examination performed yesterday on the body of the 79-year-old woman, who was on Monday found dead in her home revealed that she died as a result of a wound to the back of her neck.

This, according to investigators, has almost certainly ruled out the possibility that she may have fallen. The body of Biphaya Sankar, a pensioner of 69 New Road Vreed-en-Hoop was found around 2 pm on Monday, police had said. Two persons have since been taken into custody and up to yesterday were assisting police with investigations.

A press release from the police had stated that a tenant who lives on the ground floor of the two-storey building was trying to make contact with the elderly woman when the discovery was made.

Sankar was last seen alive around 9 am the said day when she visited the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station, police said.
