Minibus driver on causing death charge

A driver of a minibus was last week placed on $90,000 bail after he appeared before Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle on a charge of causing death by dangerous driving.

It is alleged that on August 30 at Camp Road, Georgetown Jodie Scipio drove a motor vehicle in a manner dangerous to the public, causing the death of 24-year-old Alana Beckles.

Beckles, a mother of three, succumbed to her injuries on September 4 while in the High Dependency Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital.

She was struck by a route 44 minibus while she and another friend were attempting to cross the road. The friend was also injured in the accident.
