The reconstituted National Mashramani Management Committee held its first meeting on Monday and has fixed the official launch of Mashramani 2009 for Friday, October 3.
The Government Information Agency (GINA) reported that the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport said in a release that the secretariat has activated the members of this committee, its sub-committees and the festival’s theme will be announced at the launch of Mashramani by chairman of the committees, Minister Dr Frank Anthony.
At Monday’s meeting Minister Anthony charged both the central body and its various sub-committees to begin work immediately to maintain, if not surpass, the impetus and standards set at CARIFESTA X.
He opined that the Guyanese public in the aftermath of CARIFESTA, “harbours great expectations of excellent and continued organizational success.”
The release added that a number of new ideas were suggested to broaden the scope of the festival, including the re-establishment of the sub-committees.
