It is alleged that Khemraj Mohabir, 45, called Vishnu and Narsingh Bethune, 45 called Ramesh broke and entered the storeroom of Roopnarine Ramroop between July 1 and September 21 at Bath Settlement, West Berbice.

The men who were employed with Ramnauth as security guards reportedly stole a quantity of groceries and other articles to the tune of $1.2M.

Police prosecutor, Donna Grant-Fraser applied for substantial bail.

Attorney-at-law, Perry Gossai representing Mohabir told the court that his client is married with two children and has his own home at Experiment, Bath, West Berbice.

He submitted that some of the items that were seized were his client’s personal property.
Gossai also informed the court that a small quantity of the articles was found at Bethune’s home at Bath. He made a request for bail to be reasonable.

He said the police had placed the men on $40,000 and $20,000 station bail respectively and that they attended court on their own.

Reports are that the items were discovered at the guards’ homes after Roopnarine made a spot check at around 5:10 am last Sunday.

Bethune was reportedly found with items worth over $7,000 in his bag.

This led to the recovery of the other items at the men’s homes.

They are scheduled to return to the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court on October 30.
