Thirty-one students who were successful at national and regional examinations this year were proud recipients of bursaries and certificates of accomplishment from the Bosai Mineral Group Guyana Inc.
The awards were given out to both children of employees as well as top achievers in the community. Children of employees who were awarded for success at the National Grade Six Assessment Examinations were Rashley Holder, Raianna Rogers, Susan Marshall, Shannon Wright, Michael Anthony, Shellon Massiah, Shamika Monroe, Holliann Cambridge, Akeem Allicock, Saskiea Percival and Renee Webb. Em-ployees’ children who excelled at the Caribbean Secondary Examination Certificate were Malika Chapman, Roshana McCurdy and Sheneza Massiah.
Linden’s top student at the Grade Six Assessment, Angelica Holder along with Allan Bakker, Omyanna Drakes, Angela Edwards, Monouska Vyfhuis, Esther Ashley and Trishanna Lane were also honoured for being among the top ten for Region Ten. Susan Hamilton, Nursat Khan, Whoopi Liverpool, Tinnesha Brower and Kikevya Blair were recognized as the top five for the region.
Awarded for excelling at the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination were Jomane Thompson, Latoya Perry, Gerald Thompson, Tiffany Bruce and Shayla Smartt Tappin.
The award ceremony was held last week Sunday at the Linmine Constabulary Recreational Hall, which saw the attendance of senior functionaries of Bosai including General Manager Stephen Ma, Personnel and Industrial Relations Superintendent Peter Benny, Chief Executive Officer of Linmine Secretariat Horace James, senior officers of the Department of Education and head teachers.
Addressing the children and other special invitees Ma and Benny reiterated the company’s commitment to the development of education system.
“As a corporate citizen Bosai has a personal commitment to see Linden grow and we are especially committed to seeing significant development in the education sector,” Benny said.
Benny also took the opportunity to inform the gathering of the progress the company is making in reducing the dust emitted from the bauxite kilns, which affects residents.
He confirmed a recent release by the Environmental Protect Agency, which said that Bosai has submitted a new timetable, which sees a new dust collection system being in place by the end of the last quarter of 2009.
Ma said that next year the awards would be extended to the most outstanding primary and secondary schools and teachers.
The ceremony also saw winners of the debating and quiz competitions, which Bosai and the Department of Education had sponsored, receiving their prizes.
