Cabinet gives go-ahead for $118M school contracts

Cabinet gave the go-ahead for a number of contracts at its October 14 meeting including three for schools worth a total of $118M.

According to the Government Information Agency, in the education sector a contract valued $49,000,000 was cleared for an extension to the Patentia Secondary School, West Demerara in Region Three and rehabilitation work at St Mary’s High in Georgetown. A $21,864,260 award was also given the go-ahead for the construction of phase two of a secondary school at Number Eight Village, West Coast Berbice.

In the health sector a $44,164,300 contract was given the go-ahead for the remodelling of the National Psychiatric Hospital at Fort Canje, Berbice, Region Six. An award of $23,120,800 was also cleared for the procurement of two autoclaves for the National Public Health Reference Laboratory and one for $22,400,000 for the procurement of prodigy glucose machines and measurement strips for standards and technical services.

As regards electricity, no-objections were given to an award of 129,272 euros for the procurement of 11,700 meter enclosures for the Guyana Power and Light. A sum of $104,370,812 was also given the green light for the procurement of line material for 69KV overhead transmission line projects for the company.

In the public works sector the go-ahead was given for an award of $281,874,529 for the supply of spares for motor vessels for the Transport and Hydraulics Department. An award for $40,953,828 was also cleared to build a visitor’s arrival centre at the Kaieteur National Park in Region Eight.

An award of $23,833,950 was also given the go-ahead for the construction of the Tukeit Guest House and a caretaker’s building at the said Park.
