In a press release, Secretary of the Orphanage Board Hakeem Khan lauded the contribution from Muslim Aid of London. He said the gesture is in keeping with others the organisation had demonstrated in its works with other Muslim organizations in Guyana. The project was valued at over $400,000.

Khan also expressed appreciation to the President of the Caribbean Islamic Cultural Society of London Mohamed Rashied for securing sponsorship for the event. He said the orphanages are the only legitimate programme for orphan care and criticised the failure of “orphans sponsorship” offered by other groups as it “opens the question of whether these orphans actually exist.”

Meanwhile, representative from the Human Services Ministry Ms Pluck said her office has an excellent relationship with the orphanage.

She also helped to distribute presents to the children. The programme was chaired by television host Reyad Hussain.
