Jerome Khan admitted to the Bar

Former MP Jerome Khan was recently admitted to the Guyana Bar.
Senior Counsel Edward Luckhoo presented Khan’s petition to the court. In his address Khan thanked Luckhoo for his “absolute professionalism and great help.” Khan did his internship at the Chambers of Luckhoo and Luckhoo under the senior counsel’s guidance. He said he was grateful to Ramesh Persaud and the staff “for their sincere help.” He also singled out Robert Ramcharran “for his help, guidance and willingness to share his knowledge.”

Khan also extended gratitude to his tutors at the University of Guyana; singling out “three special persons” professors Peter Britton and Aubrey Bishop and Registrar Sita Ramlal. “The energy and skill they bring to the teaching of law prepared my colleagues and me for the challenges at Law School,” he said. Khan also said he was grateful to Commodore Gary Best for sharing his time and resources during the Legal Education Certificate Programme.
Khan also thanked his in-laws Mr and Mrs Sookraj for their support and said he “will forever be grateful to my dearest wife Debra and son Brendon for tolerating my absences and time away from them. Without their understanding, support and encouragement today would not have been a reality.” He said it was especially poignant that he was being admitted to the Bar on his son’s 13th birthday.

Khan is one of seven children born to the late Mellow and Rosie Khan of Cane Grove.  He attended the Cane Grove Anglican School then obtained his secondary education from the Cummings Lodge Government Secondary and Central High schools. He also holds two BAs from Canada’s York University; the first in Economics and History and the other in English and Philosophy. He then obtained a Bachelor of Education and Ontario Teacher’s Certificate from Brock University in Ontario.
